The inaugral show, 'Contemporary Practices and new Media," curated by Syed Mujtaba Rizvi, showcased works by 34 leading and emerging artists. The exhibition explored the bold and challenging practice by Kashmiri artists today. It explored the shift from traditional practices, and how this practices manifests in our contemporary culture, and its co-relation with the practice in the international world. The exhibition included works in the form of paintings, sculpture, installations, digital and other new and experimental media.
The show was brought to an abrupt end when tourism officials vandalized the gallery, ransacked the place, and illegally seized the premises.
Within a month of its vandalism, we organised the first and largest ever consolidated show of contemporary art from, about and for Kashmir in New Delhi. The exhibition, re-stART, built upon the works vandalized in the Gallery, including some of the damaged works.
We are now preparing grounds for the re-launch of Gallerie One's physical space, while other projects in the form of exhibitions, residencies and so on continue to take place.
